The Philippine-Austrian Cultural and Educational Society (PACES) has selected six undergraduate university students and seven vocational education students to receive scholarship support beginning in school year 2024-25 Founded in 2016, PACES has as one of its goals the promotion of the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as a vehicle for Philippine development and progress.
Under a new leadership headed by President Dr. Jane Gerardo-Abaya, PACES has expanded its educational support for STEM students in the Philippines to two levels starting in school year 2024-25.
The college/university-level STEM scholarships, whose predecessor programs have already helped eight students obtain Bachelor of Science diplomas and professional engineering certifications, are continuing with the award of six new scholars in cooperation with ANCOP.
The new STEM scholars are:
- Cervantes, Ma. Ellaine Chavez, incoming 4th year, B.S. Civil Engineering at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila
- Galang, Larenz, incoming 4th year, B.S. Industrial Engineering at Bulacan State University
- Goliman, Christine Mae Buslon, incoming 4th year, Bachelor in Engineering Technology at Technological University of the Philippines Cavite campus
- Padilla, Christian, incoming 3rd year, B.S. Computer Engineering at Colegio de Muntinlupa
- Sambuena, Janna Andrea Cadungog incoming 3rd year, B.S. Civil Engineering at Colegio de Muntinlupa
- Silva, John Laurence Piulo, incoming 3rd year, Bachelor in Engineering Technology at Technological University of the Philippines
In parallel with its STEM scholarship, PACES is also now supporting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for high school graduates. The following students, all hailing from Palawan, are enrolled in the TVET program of Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati:

- Ruslan A. Boriones, Automotive Mechanic
- Joedel P. Dela Torre, Refrigeration and Air conditioning

- Mavie R. Pavia, Refrigeration and Air conditioning
STEM Scholarships
The STEM scholarships support academically and financially deserving Filipino students enrolled in selected science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) degree programs in Philippine state universities and colleges.
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)
For the first time, PACES is supporting TVET training through the partnership of CFC ANCOP and Don Bosco One TVET Philippines at the latterĀ“s training center in Makati, Metro-Manila. The 15-month training courses are open to high school graduates. This initiative is in line with the pronouncement made by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. at his 2023 State of the Nation Address that the government is making available to young Filipinos their participation in formal schooling, alternative learning, non-diploma courses, or in technical-vocational education and training or TVET.
