„A standout performance! Amazing voices, perfect blending! Captivating! A showcase of musical excellence! Outstanding choir and repertoire! The most powerful and technically versed group I’ve ever seen! Ang galing-galing nila (They are very good!).“

These were but a few of the accolades showered on the Ateneo Chamber Singers (ACS) after their  impressive two-hour concert at the Canisius Church in Vienna’s 8th district in 2 June 2025.

It was a performance that was nothing short of breathtaking. Their mastery of vocal harmonies, combined with the emotional depth they infused into each piece, created an experience that lingered long after the final note. What stood out for the audience was how the choir effortlessly shifted between different musical genres — soaring through sacred choral works and then segueing into the warmth of Filipino compositions with a heartfelt authenticity.

Beyond their technical brilliance, the ensemble exuded a sense of unity and purpose. Each voice was distinct yet seamlessly woven into the tapestry of sound, creating an atmosphere that felt intimate and transcendent at the same time. Their dedication to the craft, paired with their commitment to using music for a meaningful cause, made the concert not just a musical event but a truly moving experience.

Music as a bridge

The evening was more than just a showcase of musical excellence. It was a benefit concert in support of PACES, whose mission is to provide scholarships to talented Filipino students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

In her welcome address before the concert began, PACES President Dr. Jane-Gerardo Abaya lauded the concert and said music is a bridge that allows PACES to give these students a shot at a better future.

For her part, Philippine Ambassador to Austria, Her Excellency Evangelina Arroyo-Bernas thanked the choir for „bringing a piece of the Philippines to Vienna“.

The Parish priest of Canisius Church, Father John Njenga Nganga also took the pulpit and thanked the audience both the choir and concert attendees for embracing a spirit of community and compassion.

In a special highlight following the concert, the Ateneo Chamber Singers were honored with the “Global Partner of Peace Award” by the Women’s Federation for World Peace. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that significantly contribute to peace-building and human development.

WFWP Austria President Renate Amesbauer lauded the choir not only for their artistic contributions but also for their commitment to social upliftment through music.

The Vienna concert was made possible with the cooperation of the Philippine Embassy in Vienna, Verein Filipina Osterreich,  Committee for the 50th Anniversary of Nurses and Midwives, Kapunongan sa mga Bisaya sa Austria (KBA), MAISUG , Council of Filipino Associations in Austria (CFAA), Ilonggo Community in Austria,  several members of the Filipino community in Austria, Canisiuskirche and PACES.
